May news

It's time for our monthly news post again.

Mary Hoffman had two books out in April

Food for All: What we Eat and Where it Comes From is published by Otter-Barry books and illustrated by Ros Asquith. It’s intended for Key Stage 1 and 2 and treats every aspect of food - some very big issues like famine, food banks, farming, climate change are treated with a light touch and there is an alien to find on every spread who comments on the oddities of what we do about food on our planet. https://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/book/9781915659378/isbn/Food-for-All-by-Mary-Hoffman.html

At the other end of the age range, for adults, her book
David, the Unauthorised Autobiography, was re-issued by Writers Review Publishing, a collective enterprise founded by Sassies Linda Newbery, Celia Rees and Adèle Geras. It’s the imagined story of the young man who posed for Michelangelo’s iconic statue in Florence and was originally published by Bloomsbury as a YA novel. https://www.writersreviewpublishing.co.uk/our-books/david-the-unauthorised-autobiography/

Camilla Chester's second children's novel Project Pony was published by Firefly Press on May 1st
Natalie has had enough of her mum’s boyfriend, but what’s the best way to get him out of their lives for good? Perhaps going away with Mum and best friend Ashlin to the Own Your Own Pony week will persuade Mum that Natalie and horse riding are all they need. For horse-lovers everywhere. https://www.camillachester.com/camillas-books.html

Liz Kessler's Valley of the Vikings is out on the 8th May.

A rip-roaring adventure story of magic, myth and mermaids, featuring Liz Kessler's popular character Emily Windsnap.

Neptune and Thor battle for power and their fight upsets the balance of the world. Lightning strikes, curses fly and towering waves swallow a Viking longship and its crew into a watery valley, taking with it the secret of the magical blue crystals.
A thousand years later, Emily, a girl who is half human, half mermaid, discovers a bangle with a mysterious and beautiful blue crystal. With the help of her human and mer friends, she discovers the truth about the jewel – and the danger the world faces. The team must race against time to persuade the powerful but notoriously selfish gods of sea and sky to make peace with each other, before disaster strikes.
