INGO by Helen Dunmore Reviewed by Sharon Tregenza

I've recently been doing a lot of research on Cornish myths and legends and for atmosphere decided to reread Helen Dunmore's wonderful 'Ingo' saga starting with this, the first in the series.

When Sapphire's dad disappears into the Cornish sea, most people think he's dead. She misses her father and his magical stories of the Mer, the people of the underwater kingdom of Ingo. When her brother, Conor, starts disappearing for hours at a time - Sapphy investigates until she too is drawn by the call of the ocean. Can they find their father without getting lost themselves.

Dunmore creates a haunting tale of mermaids, mythology and magic. Narrated by a quick-witted Sapphy this book is crammed full of sea-drenched adventure and mystery. And if that isn't enough there are four more wonderful books in the Ingo series
