NOVEMBER'S AUTHOR by Sharon Tregenza

ASTRID LINDGREN

Astrid Lindgren was born, Astrid Anna Emilia Ericsson on 14th November 1907 in Vimmerby, Sweden.

She was the second of the four children of Samuel August, a tenant farmer, and Hanna Jonsson Ericsson. Storytelling was a natural part of their childhood and their parents encouraged them to engage with the world of literature.

In 1931 she married Sture Lindgren, her office manager, and started a family. As her children were growing up Lindgren told them stories from her own childhood. At the age of 37, she began to write down the Pippi tales. Pippi Longstocking is the most loved and enduring of her children's book characters. The first Pippi adventure, was published in 1945. Lindgren went on to write over 80 books, which have been translated into around 90 languages.
