Pastures new... by Eloise Williams

I heard someone say recently that you don’t get more time to write once you’ve become a professional writer – if anything you get less.

I’ve certainly found this to be the case.

As well as writing books – which as you all know is in itself a completely consuming task – I run workshops, give talks, appear at events, teach Creative Writing, and so on.

I’ve just finished writing my third book, my editor likes it – hurray! And now the editing begins while I’m also starting on my fourth.

Unfortunately, something has to give. So, with heavy heart I’m hanging up my blogging hat and passing the cap to someone else.

With my last post I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has read my pieces, commented, shared, and been generally lovely.

I also wanted to share some of my favourite moments since I began writing for young people just over two years ago. It has been a complete blast and I’ve loved every minute.

Thanks for your support and brilliance and happy writing to you all!

I was thrilled when Elen's Island was chosen for the BookTrust Advent Calendar. It was one of my happiest writing moments.  I was even more thrilled when they chose it to be part of their Letterbox Club - an amazing gift scheme for young people which is about the best thing you could possibly ever want to be a part of.
We'll be donating to their book gift scheme for Christmas this year - hope you can too!
I've met some outstanding young people over the past couple of years. Such enthusiasm and creativity. It has been a complete honour to work with them.

I ran workshops with my local school for a number of weeks and they made me a brochure with lots of drawings and photographs in it. It's one of the best presents I've ever had.

I've been sent lots of totally gorgeous pictures of readers and, to my great joy, it seems that Gaslight also appeals to the dog population.
And finally, for World Book Day I read to a group of young readers at a local library and a boy wearing a Lego outfit couldn't sit down throughout because of his costume. His mum had stayed up all night making it for him.  Now that's love for you.
I've had an absolute blast and I've been very grateful to be able to share some of these things with you. And now for pastures new...

So good luck all, have a fabulous festive season and for good measure - here's my dog Watson Jones in his favourite winter wear.

Good luck with your books. The school visits sound fun - and Watson Jones is looking cool there in his winter gear :)
