Deckchair doodling and dawdling by Tracy Darnton

It's summer holidays. But something tells me I'm going to be spending a lot of time at home crying over edits while doing back-to-back waves of self-isolation.

Where I'd rather be - Fjaerland booktown Norway July 2018

So this month's blog is a few writing prompts for anyone else staycationing in their own deckchair. Take a break from your WIP, or kickstart a piece of flash fiction or a short story.

Use one of the opening lines and write solidly for ten minutes:

She had not expected to be holidaying at home but...

A pair of broken sunglasses lay on the deckchair.

A solitary blue suitcase circled the luggage carousel.

Visual prompts if you prefer

Now repeat in a different genre and see where the same prompt takes you. So if you never normally write horror or thriller (my personal favourite),  or romance, indulge in a little genre swapping.

Happy Holidays!
