AARTI & THE BLUE GODS by Jasbinder Bilan (A review). by Sharon Tregenza

Aarti lives a lonely life on a remote Scottish island with her aunt - it's all she's ever known. But a chance find and a half-drowned boy set off  distant memories and the search for a different past.

Bilan's strength has always been her ability to mix colourful cultures with myth and magic and this book is no exception. Aarti & the Blue Gods is an intriguing story crammed full of vivid descriptions and interesting characters. It explores themes of friendship and self discovery and throws in an unexpected twist to create a wholly satisfying read for all ages eight and up.

A magical story and a worthy successor to Bilan's previous award winning books - Asha & the Spirit Bird and Tamarind & the Star of Ishta.
