The Children's Media Conference - by Ciaran Murtagh

Tomorrow I'll be heading off to the Children's Media Conference in Sheffield. It's an annual event where everybody who has anything to do with writing and working in children's entertainment goes to socialise, connect and attend panels on hot button topics.

For those of you who have never been, it's a great opportunity to network and find out more about breaking into the industry or how to work more in another part of it.

This year they will be revealing the new Children's Laureate at the event and there are representatives from many publishing houses tagging along for the fun. There's also lots of production companies - both UK and international - who are always on the look out for the next big idea.

Not only that, you get to rub shoulders with your peers, mining them for advice and catching up in many of the social events that surround the conference proper.

This year, I was asked by the brilliant Chitra Soundar to host a session on mentoring which I am really looking forward to. I'm also looking forward to finding out more about what broadcasters are looking for in the near future -  as well as reconnecting with some old friends.

If three days in Sheffield just isn't possible for you, you can attend virtually or login to watch the sessions at your leisure after the event. Regardless, if you're serious about your career and are keen to meet agents, writers and people in the know when it comes to the Children's Media landscape in the UK, I suggest you check it out.
