Evviva Signor Rioba STOP PRESS – Michelle Lovric

The missing head of Signor Rioba (see May 3’s blog) has been found.

A street cleaner delivered it to the Carabinieri’s Cannaregio stazione this morning, having found it in a plastic rubbish bag.

An investigation is underway. It is not yet known when the head will be restored to the body.

Discussions continue about how to protect the many open-air works of art in Venice, where overnight another act of vandalism was committed: an arson attack at the church of Santa Maria dei Derelitti. A 17th century painting by Antonio Molinari was destroyed by fire and smoke
