Birthday Post 6

Hope you're enjoying our birthday party! And don't forget our giveaway!

Here’s the scenario.

The wolves have wandered off, but the oak sprite is still hanging around. She’s taken a bit of a shine to you and your bibliophilia. She is – for now – turning a blind eye to the wood pulp in your hands. Anyway, she calls on her dear friend, the dressing-up box gnome. Together, they plan to turn you into your all-time favourite children’s book character.

Who do you choose?

Meggie from Inkheart! I want to be able to read my characters into life! Even the very naughty ones...

I want to be Gandalf the Grey, please. Then I can battle magically with any wolf or orc who happens along, be friends with all the elves and sprites, and later I will turn into a white wizard with a long silver beard and write a fantastic book that outsells Harry Potter until the end of time. (You did say this was make-believe, didn't you?)
For now I think I'll just be invisible for a while. Now, where did I put that magic ring...?

Oh, yes Gandalf would be good. But I think I'd have to go for Hermione Grainger. Immersed in the magic world, but able to be a muggle too; a talented witch and a very clever young woman. The world really would be your oyster. She's much better than that boy she hangs around with!

Oh goodie! This is a game I play a lot when bored (yes, sad). I want to be Lyra Silvertongue, even with the sadness about Will at the end of TAS. I want to have a Daemon--and Pantalaimon is the daemon I would choose over all others. And I should go to Svalbard and live with bears and fly with witches--and then I should go and study with a shaman and explore that magic, with the hope of becoming a shaman myself.

Oh, if I can't be Gandalf I'll be Legolas!

But my unkind children say I'm like Discworld's Nanny Ogg!

I'd like to be Jo too but as Adele is being her, I'll go for Winnie-the-Pooh....I think I feel the need for a little snackerel coming on.....

ooh, I was thinking of being Winnie-the-Pooh. Maybe I could have more of a snack as the Very Hungry Caterpillar?

I'd like to be Pippi Longstocking, please, dear gnome. With her incredible strength and utter disregard for all society's conventions - what fun!

Can I change my mind and Moomintroll? All those adventures in the perpetually dark midwinter and the perpetually light midsummer. And I love the hattifatteners (however you spell it, which is probably not like that!)

Ooh! Now I want to be the Snork Maiden and float on a cloud. Or do I want to be Snufkin and go off on adventures? So many characters to choose from, so little daydreaming time. And Mary, the Nanny Ogg comment is a foul slur upon your character. I CANNOT believe you sing 'A Wizard's Staff Has a K**b on the End' OR 'The Rude Hedgehog Song' when you have had a few glasses of Chianti. Do you?

It's the end of the day and my profile picture is still up from the book I'd choose from the British Library... so I'm going to stick to picture books and Emily's Gravett's 'Wolves' and be the Wolf so I can eat more cake. But secretly I think I'd rather be Cassandra from I Capture a Castle. Can we have a character for each day of the week?

Snufkin from the Moomintroll books (mind you I'm about as snappy a dresser as he is anyway!)

Cathie from Run Away Home or Katie-Morag from Mairi Hedderwick's books.

I used to love stroppy little Sophie from the Dick King-Smith series and my girls loved her too.
