I take my students to events such as Reading Matters and the Melbourne Writers Festival student days, and half the pleasure is watching the kids enjoy. Sometimes, when the guest speaker is a friend or acquaintance, I get to introduce them to their young fans. Last year, for example, I introduced Will Kostakis, who had wandered over to say hullo, to my student Nicholas, who was a huge fan of his work! <br /><br />And it is a pleasure just to see them and celebrate their work. <br /><br />I know what you mean about your fan girl reaction to Susan Cooper - all of us did the same thing when she was guest at a library conference I attended in Hobart many years ago.
