The backside on the seat and the study and the craft - and the being in the right space yourself - are all part of it too.

Admirable of your firend Ed to understand and admit there's more. Do you loan him out?)Penny Dolanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16386668303428008498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-81351957049211186332010-11-24T20:56:30.553+00:002010-11-24T20:56:30.553+00:00small, even.small, even.Katherine Langrishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12529700103932422873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-7351032043294408032010-11-24T20:56:11.232+00:002010-11-24T20:56:11.232+00:00And I was away for seven years, in two different c...And I was away for seven years, in two different countries, and like the others said, got no writing done at all... samll kids didn't help either..Katherine Langrishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12529700103932422873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-52222498004676117802010-11-24T17:58:16.032+00:002010-11-24T17:58:16.032+00:00What Keren said, word for word! Your friend might find the same.Gillian Philiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17775401199564200537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-9537736911354787272010-11-24T17:38:47.327+00:002010-11-24T17:38:47.327+00:00I was in your friend's position for a long tim...I was in your friend's position for a long time - the 'trailing spouse' abroad because of my husband's job, time and money rich, and,one would imagine, in a great position to write. I hardly wrote anything at all. Tellyour friend not to underestimate the stress of moving abroad, the way one is taken away from sources of inspiration(language, news, listening to people in the street!) and the knock to one's self esteem that comes from being the one without the big important international job. As soon as I came back to 'real life' I started writing. Being an expat wife/husband is really hard.Keren Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13121027210783177857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-2481222092013103762010-11-24T13:38:49.997+00:002010-11-24T13:38:49.997+00:00I know what both of you mean! That said, I'm not somebody who can dash off a first draft and then painstakingly improve it; I have to do all the painstaking stuff as I write.

That's not to say there can't be huge changes between first and second draft; but even if the first draft has a lot of flaws, it has to work for me on the level that my friend is talking about.John Doughertyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11937505376169411724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-78000780153228380842010-11-24T09:16:00.648+00:002010-11-24T09:16:00.648+00:00Shame.
