I've asked lots of teens too, and they say a similar thing. They want book shelves full of variety, not whole bookcases of paranormal dark romance.
Yes, it would be great for feedback from anyone going to the NY conference...Savita Kalhanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07977368691995933130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-18292666102467915052012-11-22T10:21:20.289+00:002012-11-22T10:21:20.289+00:00That's great, if true, Savita. But is this view really coming from the kids themselves? previously many have said they read to escape, because reality is too much! I wish I could go to that conference. If anybody reading this is going, perhaps they could send a report....DavidKThorpehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04215770376688861114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-7351421142226153142012-11-21T15:44:59.100+00:002012-11-21T15:44:59.100+00:00Nicky, i think there's room for everything - o...Nicky, i think there's room for everything - or there should be! I go online to buy books, and curiously, I've been hunting out realism more and more. Am hoping that between the paranormal and the real there'll be room for a bit of magical realism - she said hopefully.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04871239587214383387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-74985640900883324292012-11-21T12:22:57.085+00:002012-11-21T12:22:57.085+00:00Kate - my teen is the same, and I've heard tha...Kate - my teen is the same, and I've heard that many other teens feel the same way too. Not always 'gritty' reality, either, but humour and relationships and school and some of the ordinary issues that make up their day. Yes, they loved the Hunger Games but they also want something that touches base with their own lives.Katenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-13154861586978709042012-11-21T11:29:05.655+00:002012-11-21T11:29:05.655+00:00Linda, it might have been wishful thinking on my p...Linda, it might have been wishful thinking on my part if I hadn't seen 'realism' being the next big thing being discussed on the internet, but of course there are no guarantees... Variety is the key, so let's hope that the powers that be see it that way too!
Nicola - I like the sound of your gritty thriller! From what I've been reading recently, realism, in any form, is all set to be 'the next big thing', and Europe is already leading the way.
