I couldn't agree more, I've always felt this way, and when people (mainly my mother!) frequently suggest that my next book be about something trending, something that will appeal to the broadest common denominator so that I might earn 'decent money', I always say I'd far rather go back to f/t teaching than do that, because 'writing commercially' for me is about as appealing as sweeping the streets!
