I did read the Snow book but remember only the thrillerish element and the weather. <br />And Elen, yes, some of the stuff in books about war is hard to get your head around, but this one is different from lots of others with the emphasis less on the fighting than the treatment after the fighting. Tremendous advances made in plastic surgery and so forth. Not that that's an excuse for a war, of course but you know what I mean. I cried in history class when we did the First World War. That seems to be my inevitable reaction whenever I think about the pointless loss of life.
