Lots of the books I loved were in the library too, and I was gutted when the library moved to a different building and changed all the books - I did manage to buy a few of my old favourites in a library sale though.Lilyhttp://www.lilyhyde.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-60401512625342340562013-10-27T10:33:12.574+00:002013-10-27T10:33:12.574+00:00Beautiful post! Most of those authors were always part of my own life, but I grew up in town, in a suburb by the sea, so all my early writing is sea-based and has no connection with those wonderful landscapes. On the other hand, when I visited England after reading Ellis Peters' Brther Cadfael novels, Shrewsbury seemed very familiar; I could almost walk the streets mentioned in the books blindfolded, though that would have been to miss out on their beauty.Sue Bursztynskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09362273418897882971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-89498672053385723602013-10-27T10:30:03.419+00:002013-10-27T10:30:03.419+00:00I recognise so many of the spines in that box!!I recognise so many of the spines in that box!!Pippa Goodharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17709422048047155208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-59182869195914617742013-10-27T09:04:09.686+00:002013-10-27T09:04:09.686+00:00We didn't have many books at home when I was g...We didn't have many books at home when I was growing up but thankfully, I had a brilliant library on my doorstep and I spent a lot of time there. I went back a few years ago and obviously, the books had changed so I can't say it's the landscape of my childhood but I always thought that lived in my head anyway. As you say, it's sculpted by the books we read, the imagination of others. I've never visited Alderley Edge but I feel like I know it. And The Shire seems just as real.Tamsyn Murrayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08041502244181924265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-50713170714122641982013-10-27T08:30:41.479+00:002013-10-27T08:30:41.479+00:00Like you, I was dragged out, rather unwillingly,on...Like you, I was dragged out, rather unwillingly,on long weekend walks. Of course I'm so grateful that I was, but I really envy you your childhood library.

We moved house to a different continent when I was in my early teens, and most of my books were left behind.I was allowed to take a couple, which I still have, but I really miss one of my history books. I would so love to find it again....Thinking of the dayshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04369739724991129358noreply@blogger.com
