You think, "so what? I'm still the same". I suppose it's human nature to constantly want more. At the moment my idea of success is like yours, just to be able to make a living from making books, but I don't know if that will ever happen!Sheenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11101211665830807591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-31414531522898950032011-05-11T21:50:59.601+01:002011-05-11T21:50:59.601+01:00Good point - we do tend to see success as somethin...Good point - we do tend to see success as something that lies perpetually ahead of us rather than the platform of our accomplishment. I am always in contradiction when someone sees me as a 'successful' author - I've got six non fiction books in print, plenty of foreign translations and a satisfying amount of feedback from readers. BUT of course I'm not earning very much, which is something that non writers have no idea about ("all those royalties - how nice!" they say. Ha ha) So the little imp in my head that measures success by income pipes up and says "actually, I'm not successful at all." Go away, imp! One day.....Claudia Myatthttp://www.claudiamyatt.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-37169937714676539032011-05-07T18:02:50.697+01:002011-05-07T18:02:50.697+01:00It's a difficult thing, isn't it? You seem to have managed both.Leila Rasheednoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-54738457918211529952011-05-07T08:08:13.788+01:002011-05-07T08:08:13.788+01:00I'm not sure who ever feels they are a 'su...I'm not sure who ever feels they are a 'successful' author. It probably depends more on personality than achievements. But Linda is absolutely right - you have to accept the label if it is making the OTHER person happy to use it. It's ungracious not to, even if it makes you squirm.

It's also not good for your public image to go around denying your success - others (including publishers) will take you at your own estimation, remember. If your estimation is low, keep quiet about it!Stroppy Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16560035800075465845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7780182174577095197.post-35889398924055511072011-05-06T19:49:52.269+01:002011-05-06T19:49:52.269+01:00Interesting post.
